How to Care for Your Area Rug
Even if you don’t have a lot of spare time to devote to your area rug's care, there are some quick and easy tasks that will do wonders to protect the look and longevity of your area rug.
Some good preventative maintenance will go a long way to keep your new area rug looking as good as new for years to come!
Area Rug Preventative Maintenance
Preventative maintenance starts by limiting the amount of dirt and dust that come into contact with you area rug.
Start by asking family members and guests to remove their shoes before walking across your area rug. Doormats will also help trap dirt in advance.
You should regularly vacuum your area rug to remove all of the dirt, dust, and pet hair, crumbs, and allergens that do end up in its fibers. We also recommend the occasional professional cleaning or shampooing. Just remember—don't dry clean area rugs or use bleach on them!
Dealing with Spills & Stains
No matter how careful you are, your area rug will probably fall victim to stains or spills, especially if you have kids or pets, or its in a high use area like the kitchen. Fortunately, many of our area rugs are sold with stain-resistant technology, which makes it easy to deal with stains!
Before cleaning up any mess, establish whether it's an oil- or water-based stain. Then, consult your manufacturer's care guide. Some stains will wipe away with a simple cloth while others will require a more comprehensive approach.
